Underlying Philosophy

Indigeninity is a Behavioral Health Resource Network (BHRN) comprised of multiple organizations across Multnomah County, Oregon. We have come together to form a comprehensive substance use disorder network of care that is coordinated, accessible, and supports our community. The value in this design is the ability to draw upon the expertise of a diverse collection of personnel within the organizations. Each person working in this system has a unique background and contributes a different perspective. This strengthens our system and enhances our ability to serve residents from historically marginalized communities.

Together, we operate under the following foundational principles:

  • Honor the intrinsic value of all people

  • Create opportunities to destigmatize substance use

  • Develop and expand access to care for the underserved communities and those most impacted by the war on drugs using a health equity lens

  • Use a person-first approach, driven by the individual

  • Create opportunities for outreach, engagement, connection, and support

  • Create “no wrong door” for accessing care

  • Recognize that people need individualized supports and a broad array of services to choose from that are linguistically and culturally specific

  • Honor that recovery is a journey defined by and unique to each individual

Our Vision is to provide spaces for community, safety, and belonging, while eliminating service barriers for those most impacted by the war on drugs, with an emphasis on BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ community.
